"Emperors uphold censorship,
But extreme repression leads to extreme reaction.
Individuals believe in freedom,
But extreme expression leads to extreme reaction."
~From 365 Tao Daily Meditations
I liked this excerpt particularly because it focuses on the balance of all things; two very different and very extreme points of view lead to the same, negative result. Everything must be taken in moderation to ensure balance and harmony.
Another reason why I liked this excerpt is because one of my pet peeves is extremes and extremists. People who push thier views and opinions on others relentlessly often harm more than they help. It annoys me when a person seeks to be different, or seeks to always be right, and must always conform to a certain style of thinking or acting. By doing this, by limiting oneself, you block yourself off from understanding new or different situations or points of view. You stagnate. So a balance with everything, and an ability to understand multiple sides of one story, is a very beneficial trait to have because it makes you adaptable.
